I’m starting this worklog on the third week so I’ll write the first week as I was writing it at that time.

Week 1

Over the past week I have collected about 13 laptop battery packs. 10 I got from a local computer repair shop, 1 I got from office Depot, and the other I got from a good friend of mine. These batteries hold about 4-8 18650 cells. Once I take them apart I’ll test each cell and separate the good ones from the bad.

Week 2

Welp, 2 days, 4 hours, and 50 tiny cuts later, I was able to harvest about 74 18650 cells. here are my findings:

If you are interested, the links to more detailed battery specs can be found bellow:

Week 3

This week has probably been the busiest. I borrowed an Imax B6 Battery tester from a friend and everyday for the past 5 days i’ve been discharging and then recharging the batteries I charged last week. Right now I have about 45 cells tested and ready. I should probably mention that I have decided to use these batteries for battery banks. I’ll sell them on my college campus. So far I’ve ordered about 50 battery bank kits that you can get from China. Basically all they are, is bank enclosure along with the required charging board. Aliexpress sells them for about 80Β’ to $1. The minimum ill be charging for these is about $5 and the highest around $12,Β  which compared to the ones sold on amazon and other online stores is a steal. I’m pretty excited to start selling. About 20 of the kits have reached the United States so those will be coming in over the next few weeks.
